报告内容简介:

Recent advances in neurotechnology and cognitive neuroscience have brought the possibility to assess and quantify in real-time the cognitive state of humans in operating environments. At the same time, advances in artificial intelligence and robotics have brought the prospect of humans and autonomous agents’ interaction and collaboration from the science fiction realm to proof-of-concept studies and boosted interest in areas such as human-machine interaction (HMI) and trusted autonomous systems (TAS). Consequently, a number of frameworks for human-machine interaction and collaboration have been proposed with theoretical models revolving around concepts from human factors and cognitive science. Our perspective focuses on the aspect of objective assessment and monitoring of human brain state and function towards the goal of human machine collaboration. We argue that advances in sensor technologies, as well as computational models for cognitive assessment of human cognitive state have made possible the successful implementation of cognition-based human-machine interfaces that allow machines to comprehensively sense brain state, as a first step towards a seamless collaborative environment in which humans and machines meld together. In this direction, we review current state-of-the-art in assessing cognitive states and highlight these concepts as necessary components within frameworks defined for practical HMI and TAS implementations.

报告嘉宾简介:

Anastasios Bezerianos is the Head of Cognitive Engineering (COGEN) Laboratory at the Singapore Institute for Neurotechnology (SINAPSE) and research professor at Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department of National University of Singapore (NUS) and professor in NUS Graduate School for Integrative Sciences and Engineering and a Visiting Professor in the Computer Science Department of NSWU-Canberra, AUS. He has been the Professor of Medical Physics at the Medical School of Patras University, Patras Greece since 2004. He studied Physics at Patras University and Telecommunications at Athens University, and he received his Ph.D. on Bioengineering from the University of Patras. His research entails diverse areas spanning from Artificial Intelligence and Robotics to Biomedical Signal Processing and Brain Imaging as well as Mathematical Biology and Systems Medicine and Bioinformatics. His work is summarized in 127 journal papers, 1 book, 206 conference proceedings publications and 2 patents. He has research collaborations with research institutes and universities in Japan, the China, and Europe, and he is Associate Editor of IEEE TNSRE, the Annals of Biomedical Engineering and PLOS ONE Neuroscience journals and a reviewer for several international scientific journals.
