【医学部学术讲座】——Maintaining Genome Stability during Replication: A Structural Perspective

主讲嘉宾简介:

Dr. Chengmin Qian is a structural biologist working at School of Biomedical Sciences, the University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Qian’s lab is mainly applying structural biology tools including X-ray crystallography and protein NMR to understand the molecular mechanisms of two interrelated areas of genome integrity. Dr. Qian is interested in elucidating the underlying mechanism of epigenetic inheritance during the cell cycle. His lab is currently studying how the epigenetic machinery including DNMT1, UHRF1 and USP7 coordinate to maintain the high fidelity of DNA methylation inheritance during cell division. Dr. Qian is also putting efforts into unraveling the molecular mechanisms mediating the cellular response to replication stress. Replication stress caused by various endogenous and exogenous genotoxic agents can lead to genome instability that has been regarded as a hallmark of cancer. His group recently found that the subunit of replication protection complex Timeless interacts with PARP1 to promote DNA DSB repair. Dr. Qian’s research should have profound implications for cancer prevention, detection and treatment considering aberrant genetic and epigenetic changes contribute to tumorigenesis.
