A.   Personal Statement

My research interests lie in the molecular mechanisms of membrane trafficking and lipid metabolism. My r esearch in lipid metabolism has been supported by the General Program of National Natural Science Foundation in China (NSFC) , 2018 . I have published 19 papers in professional, peer-reviewed journals .

A full list of my publications (in a total of 74) is enclosed at the end of this document.

1.    Regulation of anterograde trafficking of GPCRs

G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) constitute the largest super-family of cell-surface signaling proteins. However, the mechanisms underlying their surface targeting and sorting are poorly understood. During my postdoctoral position in Dr Guangyu Wu’s lab, I determined the role of Rab26 (a Ras-like small GTPase involved in vesicle-mediated secretion) in the cell surface export of α(2)-adrenergic receptors (JBC 2012, 2003). I also found that manipulation of Rab43 function significantly alters the surface presentation and signaling of all GPCRs studied without affecting non-GPCR membrane proteins. This work was published in 2017 (Cell Reports, 2017).

2.    Lipid droplet formation and lipolysis

Lipid droplets (LDs) are highly dynamic organelles that not only store neutral lipids but also are involved in multiple cellular processes. Dysregulation of lipogenesis or lipolysis greatly contributes to the pathogenesis of several human diseases, including obesity, diabetes, and fatty liver disease. During my time as a research associate in Dr. Sidney Yu’s lab, I discovered a COPI–TRAPPII–Rab18 signaling mechanism in LD homeostasis. The related work was published in 2017 (EMBO J, 2017).
