A.   Personal Statement

Jiang Wei, M ale, M . D . , Assistant Professor , Shenzhen University. In 2009, I entered the Zhongshan School of Medicine,Sun Yat-Sen University . And I studied under the famous Alzheimer's disease research expert Professor Wang Huaqiao .

My long-standing research interests fall in  the study of the pathogenesis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD) . My main research direction is jatrorrhizine against mitochondrial damage and hyperphosphorylation of tau protein . It has been initially clarified that the Chinese medicine monomer jatrorrhizine exerts neuroprotective effect through anti-oxidative stress and inhibition of neuronal apoptosis induced by activation of MAPK signaling pathway, and also discusses that quercetin inhibits hyperphosphorylation of tau protein in Alzheimer's disease.

In 2013, My reseach was funded by the Doctoral Graduate Innovation Talents Development Support Project of Sun Yat-sen University. After graduating from M .D. in 2014, I went to teach in the Department of Anatomy, Medical School, Southeast University. I joined a group of renowned experts in neurodevelopmental research, Professor Zhao Chunjie of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, using genetically engineered mice to study the relationship between neurodevelopmental defects and the pathogenesis of AD. In November 2016, I  was appointed as an assistant professor by the Medical Department of Shenzhen University.

I participated in 3 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China as a major member, and chaired 2 natural science foundations of Guangdong Province, 1 medical research fund of Guangdong Province, 1 project of Guangdong Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 1 project of Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Program, 1 project of Zhaoqing Science and Technology Innovation Project, and the initiation of research of young teachers of Shenzhen University 1 item, 1 teaching reform project of Guangdong Provincial Education Committee.I translated 3 textbooks and obtained 1 patent. Published 12 articles on AD related works and conferences (including 10 articles in SCI, 3 first or co-first author SCI articles, and 1 correspondence author).

1.    Experimental Study on Jatrorrhizine Treating Alzheimer's Disease

1)This study demonstrated for the first time the neuroprotective effects of monomeric jatrorrhizine extracted from Rhizoma Coptidis on primary rat cortical neurons damaged by Aβ and its mechanism. We observed that jatrorrhizine exerted neuroprotective effects through effective antioxidation and anti-neuronal apoptosis and protection of neuronal mitochondrial function. Our reseach shows that jatrorrhizine has a good experimental therapeutic effect on AD, and has a multi-pathway, multi-target potential for the treatment of AD, while providing a theoretical basis for the development of jatrorrhizine into a multi-target AD drug. The study was published in the international authoritative magazine CNS & Neurological Disorders - Drug Targets. It is a magazine in the field of established neuropharmacology. Its initial impact factor was 14.75 (2007), and it is a journal for neuroscience and pharmacology. Peer expert evaluation is high, and has great influence in neuroscience and pharmacy fields. The paper has been cited 15 times.

2) This study explored for the first time the neuroprotective mechanism of the jatrorrhizine extracted from the Rhizoma Coptidis herba extracts on HT22 cells in hippocampal neurons injured by okadaic acid. This study shows that jatrorrhizine can not only exert anti-oxidation and protect mitochondria, but also can inhibit the apoptosis of mouse hippocampal neurons by inhibiting MAPK signaling pathway, and can further affect the activation transcription of nuclear factor NF-κB. This study further validated the effectiveness of jatrorrhizic multi-target anti-AD.

The journal's initial orientation was relatively high, and it was  a division 1 journal of neuroscience and pharmacology before 2012. It has a good reputation in the field of neuroscience and pharmacy. Although the division decreased with the year, it still has a great influence in the field of pharmacy and pharmacology. The total number of citations for this magazine in 2016 was 2447. I also published this work in the magazine as a co-first author in 2012 and was cited 13 times.

2.    Experimental Study on Quercetin Treating Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a serious threat to human health. There have been no effective prevention and control measures. We have been committed to the experimental treatment of AD, this study is to investigate the experimental treatment effect of quercetin on AD.Abnormal phosphorylation of Tau protein is one of the important pathogenesis of AD. We used quercetin to treat Tau hyperphosphorylation in hippocampal neurons HT22 cells. It was observed that  quercetin protects against Okadaic Acid-induced injury via MAPK and PI3K/Akt/GSK3β signaling pathways in HT22 hippocampal neurons.

Our related results were published in PLOS One magazine. Our series of studies on quercetin suggest that quercetin exerts its anti-AD effect in vitro through antioxidative stress and inhibition of abnormal phosphorylation of Tau protein. It provides a theoretical basis for the development of quercetin as a multi-target anti-AD drug. In the 2016 Thomson Reuters JCR Division, the magazine was  Region 1 in the MUTIDISCIPLINARY SCIENCES category .In the 2011 JCR division, the magazine was Region 1 in the BIOLOGY category . The total number of citations for the journal in 2016 was 508,248 times. This article total number of citations was 6 times.
