  1. Personal Statement

I have worked in the field of Neurology at the clinical, scientific research and educational levels for >20 years. I studied and worked at the Zhongshan Medical University Hospital and the Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University, and have a wealth of clinical experience relating to the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases. My main clinical and basic research interests are in neurodegenerative and cerebral vascular diseases. I am familiar with molecular and cellular neurobiology and neuropathology. In 2005, I visited Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia to conduct academic research. In 2008, I became a Doctor of Medicine and Director and Professor of Clinical Neurology. In January 2010, I was invited to be the High Level National Leader Talent of Shenzhen. I have presided and participated in National Key Basic Research ‘973’ Projects, Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Plans and a Medical Science Fund Project in the Guangdong Province, Guangdong Province Traditional Chinese Medicine Project, Guangzhou Pharmaceutical And Health Project, Shenzhen Science and Technology Plan Key Basic Research Projects. I am now an independent PI at the Medical Center, Shenzhen University School of Medicine. My main achievements and high academic attainments have been in the fields of Alzheimer disease, brain, blood vessel and nerve diseases and nerve cell biology and treatment technology. I have published >20 academic papers in peer-reviewed, international journals such as the International Journal of CNS Neuroscience and Therapeutics, BioMed Research International, Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, the Journal of Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering.

Contributions to Science (*: corresponding/co-corresponding author)

A full list of my publications (in a total of 17) is enclosed at the end of this document.

My research has focused on nervous system diseases in the elderly, including Alzheimer disease and Leukoaraiosis(LA). We found that excess Aβ is causative for Alzheimer disease and the net accumulation of Aβ is related to the rate of production of Aβ and to its rate of degradation. We are continuing to study the functional deficit of vacuolar-type H+-ATPase and its influence on the degradation of Aβ by microglia, to elucidate the mechanisms of lysosome-dependent autophage in the pathogenesis of AD.
