A. Personal Statement
With the long-term goal to elucidate the pathogenesis of allergy, my research focuses on the establishment, maintenance and restoration of immune tolerance. Specifically, the development of regulatory T cells (Treg) and B cells (Breg) was investigated. The role of Tregs and Bregs in the maintenance of immune homeostasis was studied in several study projects. The restoration of immune tolerance in animal models with intestinal inflammation was investigated. I also have 8-year experience of PBL teaching at McMaster University.

(3) Combination of butyrate-producing probiotics and specific immunotherapy obtained better results in the inhibition of allergic disorders in both animal model studies and clinical studies. The role of HDAC1 in such a process was also elucidated ( Am J Transl Res . 2016; 8: 5256-5270. Oncotarget ; 2016; 7:54360-54369. Allergy, Asthma & Clin Immunol . 2016; 12:37. Sci Rep 2015; 5:17651) .
(4) We found that mast cell-derived serine can convert antigen-specific Th2 cells to regulatory T cells (Sci Rep. 2014; 4: 4649) .
(5) We found that the epithelial cell-derived integrin a vβ6 was a critical factor in the induction of immune tolerance under physiological conditions (Leuko J Biol 2011;90: 751-9).
