A. Personal Statement
My long-standing research interests fall in two areas:
1) allergic diseases
Here, my lab is actively exploring novel allergens and new mechanism of allergic diseases by investigating new biomarkers such as miRNAs and lncRNAs.
2) bio-active products and synthesized chemical compounds for tumor therapy
I have isolated dozens of proteins with antitumor activities. At the same I have explored the antitumor activity of cisplatin derivatives by specifically targeting telomerase-negative cancers.
Research in my lab has been continuously supported by the National Natural Science Foundation in China (NSFC) with two regular grants and by Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Committee with two consecutive grants. I have published > 30 papers in professional, peer-reviewed journals. I have mentor ed three postdoctoral fellows, two MSc graduates and three MSc candidates.

C. Contributions to Science (*: corresponding/co-corresponding author)
A full list of my publications (in a total of 74) is enclosed at the end of this document.
1. I discovered a new allergen from mango and named it according to international nomenclature, and discovered and characterized a new allergen from cockroach

2. Identified bio-active products and synthesized chemical compounds for tumor therapy, and discovered new types of antifungal proteins, many of which are from edible sources (e.g. beans), including nonspecific lipid transfer proteins, allergen-like peptides. Previously reported types of antifungal proteins including thaumatin-like proteins, defensins and chitinases were also found.

3. Synthesized a patented cisplatin derivative Tetra-Pt(bpy) that inhibits the strand invasion/annealing step of telomeric homologous recombination by selectively converting telomeric ssDNA to a G-quadruplex in telomerase negative cancer cells and murine model. Importantly, Tetra-Pt(bpy) exhibits no adverse effects on proliferation, gene expression, or telomere metabolism in normal cells.
