Cancer therapy

 

 

A.   Personal Statement

My research interests are in comprehensive cancer therapy and checking toxicity of functional nano-particles . I served as one of founding professors of the Shenzhen University School of Medicine from 20 06 to 20 09 . My lab is actively exploring how to design multi-target tumor vaccines and measure the associated anti-tumor effects and molecular mechanisms. We have also established a 3D culture system to incubate oocytes during maturation and follicle development in vitro and have used this system to detect the biosafety of Quantum dots.  Research in my lab has been supported by one grant from the National Natural Science Foundation in China (NSFC), one Key International Collaboration grant and four regular grants in Shenzhen since 200 7 . I organized the Annual Symposium on Bio-physics in Guangdong province in 20 09 . I have published > 30 papers in peer-reviewed professional journals. I am currently mentoring three postdoctoral fellows and three M . Sc candidates.

1.      Establishment of a 3D culture system to incubate non-antral follicle development and application to monitor quantum dot toxicity.

Functional fluorescent quantum dots can be used for early tumor diagnosis. Our lab monitored the cellular and reproductive toxicity of quantum dots. Toxicity during oocyte development is difficult to measure in vivo. Consequently, our lab set up a culture system to study the toxic effects of quantum dots on oocytes in vitro, using the quantum dots as the labeling probe in vivo and performed single molecule imaging.

2.      Tumor therapy vaccine research and development

We have performed research and development of tumor "cocktail" therapy. We found that irradiation or chemical drug exposure induces the early response gene 1 (Egr-1) and promotes target gene expression (such as the tumor suppressor gene Xpo4, Endostatin and telomerase reverse transcriptase fragment (hTERTC27)) to inhibit tumor growth. We have also used the Toll-like Receptor and its utility as a tumor multi-biomarker to develop a vaccine and apply it to treat the patients in clinic.

3.      Biomagnetics effects on nerve regeneration and bone consenescence.

In 1985, our lab in Shenzhen University studied biomagnetic effects and the preventative effects of a magnetic field on osteoporosis. In 2016, we reported the promoting effects of a magnetic field on nerve recovery and have confirmed its protective role in bone senescence.
