A. Personal statement

Yongqiang Zhan is an adept medical doctor with 20 solid years of practice experience in hepatobiliary surgery, with a focus on malignancies. He is interested in basic clinical research, and has conducted research on liver protection from ischemic injury and the genetics of liver cancer. He has been involved in the research of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and municipal science and technology projects, and has published more than 20 papers. He was awarded second prize in the provincial science and technology progress based on this research. He is a visiting scholar of Ruhr University St. Joseph Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital of CUHK, and Ronald Regan Hospital of UCLA.
