A.   Personal Statement

My research interests include medical image computing (especially in medical image registration), medical imaging, computer vision, and machine learning. I have published several papers in the IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging (TMI) , International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV), and other high impact journals . I have good relationship with clinical scientists and various research groups, and value practical techniques that can be transferred to clinically applicable systems.

1.    MR-TRUS Fusion based Targeted Biopsy System

In this project, we aimed to develop a planning, training and intraoperative magnetic resonance (MR) imaging system and real-time transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) images for targeted biopsy guidance to improve the positioning accuracy. The research and development challenges included 3D US-MR image registration for compensating the large and heterogeneous prostate deformation due to the factors of TRUS probe zones, interactive navigation and visualization, and real-time intraoperative guidance requirements. We proposed a non-rigid registration method based on the prior knowledge of the patient-specific biomechanical deformation, and further implemented our registration method using GPU-based acceleration approach to ensure the real-time advantage of our system for intraoperative guidance. Our proposed deformable MR-TRUS registration achieves state-of-the-art performance.
