A.   Personal Statement

I am interested in chronic disease management and cross-cultural intervention field. Over the past few years, I have conducted research aimed at improving Chinese youth’s adaptation to type I diabetes. I am now working on the start-up program supported by Shenzhen University, which is focus on diabetes management in nursing homes. In the future, I plan to continue my research into type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and cultural adaptation methodology.

C.   Contributions to Science (*: corresponding/co-corresponding author)

Cultural adaptation methods in Health behavioral interventions

Cultural conflicts always occur when an evidence-based health behavioral intervention is introduced from western countries to China. However, cultural adaptation methods are not commonly known by Chinese researchers. During my Master’s program, I conducted research on cultural adaptations of the Coping Skill Training (CST) program, which is an imported program originally developed for youths with type I diabetes (T1D) in the USA. The adapted CST program showed optimistic feasibility and acceptability in Chinese youths with T1D. It was among the first studies about cultural adaptation in evidence-based interventions in China. It also provides evidence for the utility of cross-culture intervention adaptation methodology for nurse researchers and educators.
