Brief News of the 132nd Lecture of Shenzhen Medical Forum "Machine Learning Nanosensor" Report Successfully Held in Our Institute
On the morning of June 6, 2025, at the invitation of Associate Professor Qi Guohua from the School of Biomedical Engineering, Medical School, Professor Lin Xinyi of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, served as guest lecturer for the 132nd session of the "Shenzhen Medical Forum" and delivered an academic report titled "Machine Learning Nanosensor" to faculty and students at Building A7, Shaheyuan, Lihu Campus. The event attracted a large audience from across the Medical School.
In her lecture, Professor Lin vividly presented the latest advances in molecular detection using nanomaterials combined with surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), illustrated through engaging visuals and detailed explanations. She also introduced the integration of machine learning and robotics into scientific research. Compared with traditional manual methods, robotic systems enable precise control and targeted design of the size, shape, and purity of synthesized materials, significantly enhancing synthesis efficiency and quality. Meanwhile, the application of machine learning can greatly improve the efficiency and accuracy of biomarker detection—and may even support the prediction of previously unidentified disease-related molecules.
Professor Lin also expressed her commitment to strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration with the field of computer science and working closely with researchers to drive scientific progress. Her presentation was warmly received, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience. During the interactive Q&A session, faculty and students engaged actively, and Professor Lin responded to each question with patience and clarity, creating a lively and inspiring atmosphere.
Introduction of the Keynote Speaker:
Professor Lin Xinyi is based in the Department of Chemistry at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. She received her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Twente, the Netherlands, in 2008, and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley, from 2009 to 2011. In 2022, she was selected for the national talent program of the Ministry of Education and was named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Among her numerous accolades are the Singapore National Research Foundation “Investigator” Award, the Nanyang Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award, the L'Oréal Singapore For Women in Science National Fellowship, the Young Scientist Award from the Asian and Oceanian Photochemistry Association, and the Singapore National Research Foundation “Fellowship.” She currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces journal family and as an International Advisory Board member for Angewandte Chemie International Edition (Wiley). Professor Lin’s research focuses on applying nanotechnology in combination with surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) to the fields of environmental science, medicine, and catalysis. She has authored numerous publications as first or corresponding author in leading international journals such as Science Advances, Nature Communications, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, and Advanced Materials.
