The 2025-2026 Academic Year International Winter School Program was successfully held at Shenzhen University Medical School
The 2025–2026 International Winter School Program of Shenzhen University Medical School was successfully held at the Lihu Campus from November 17th to 21st. Six professionals from Kazakhstan’s healthcare and education sectors participated, representing fields such as clinical medicine, public health, hospital management, and medical education. The program was jointly organized by Shenzhen University Medical School and the Shenzhen-Almaty Joint Laboratory for Frontiers of Medical Science (salFMS). It aimed to support the broader initiative of building a China–Central Asia community with a shared future, while expanding international cooperation in medical education and strengthening practical exchanges in healthcare and talent development.
The opening ceremony took place on November 17th at the Lihu Campus. Professor Xu, Executive Dean of Shenzhen University Medical School, presided over the event and delivered a welcome address. He extended a warm welcome to the Kazakh participants and provided an overview of the medical school's development, including its academic programs, faculty, research platforms, and international student initiatives. He highlighted the importance of the program in advancing medical exchange between China and Kazakhstan and in promoting the sharing of high-quality educational resources.

Academic lectures
The curriculum of the program focused on public health and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. It included a series of English-language lectures that reflected the program’s interdisciplinary and cross-institutional approach. Topics covered included "Pharmacoepidemiological Research Methods," "Reform of China's Healthcare System," "Microfluidic Digital Testing Technology," and "AI-Empowered New Paradigm for Breast Ultrasound Diagnosis and Treatment." The program featured guest lecturers from the School of Public Health at Sun Yat-sen University Shenzhen Campus, including Professors Yawen Jiang, Ruoqing Chen, and Yiqiang Zhan. In addition, Professors Zida Li, Ruobing Huang, Fengsu Hou, Le Zhang, Yi Chai, and others from Shenzhen University Medical School contributed lectures for the Winter School participants.

Visiting Hospital
To enhance participants' understanding of Shenzhen’s healthcare system and urban development, the program included visits to the First Affiliated Hospital of Shenzhen University (Longhua Hospital), Shenzhen University General Hospital, Shenzhen University Yuehai Campus, and the Shenzhen Museum. During the hospital visits, participants explored clinical operations, gained insight into hospital management models, and experienced the application of advanced medical information systems, including multi-site interconnectivity, paperless processes across the patient journey, and AI-assisted diagnostics. At the Shenzhen Museum, they learned about the city’s transformation from a small border fishing village into a modern international metropolis. Participants from Kazakhstan expressed strong admiration for Shenzhen’s medical innovation and dynamic urban culture, noting that these experiences offered valuable perspectives for the development of healthcare and related sectors in their home country.
At the closing ceremony held on November 21st, participants enthusiastically shared their reflections on the program, praising Shenzhen University's medical research strengths and the city's cultural environment. Professor Xu presented completion certificates to all participants and congratulated them on the successful conclusion of the program. In his closing remarks, he noted that the Winter School represents an important step in expanding the Medical School’s educational cooperation with countries along the Belt and Road. He expressed hope for further collaboration with Kazakh partners in areas such as talent cultivation and scientific research, and warmly welcomed more outstanding professionals and students to visit Shenzhen University for future exchanges and study opportunities.
This program marks another meaningful initiative jointly launched by Shenzhen University and Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University under the framework of the Belt and Road Joint Laboratory. It has laid a strong foundation for deepening and advancing bilateral cooperation in the years ahead.
