RMIT Delegation Visits Shenzhen University to Promote International Cooperation
On April 21, 2026, a delegation from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) visited Shenzhen University. The two sides conducted a series of meetings, tours, and academic exchange activities at the Lihu Campus and Shenzhen University General Hospital. The visit aimed to strengthen cooperation between the two universities in medicine, life sciences, and interdisciplinary research, and to promote the joint development of international education and scientific research.
The RMIT delegation included Professor Catherine Itsiopoulos, Deputy Vice Chancellor of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics); Professor Charlie Xue, Associate Deputy Vice Chancellor, International STEM; Nick Scarborough, Director of International; Nicole McCarten, Associate Director of International Partnerships; and Grace Dong, Senior Advisor for International Partnerships.
Representatives from Shenzhen University included Han Shuixian, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department; Xu Xingzhi, Executive Dean of the Shenzhen University Medical School; Chen Xinchun and Wang Qun, Deputy Directors of the Medical School; Zhang Ming, Assistant to the Director of the Medical School; Zhang Tonghuan, Project Manager for Key Projects; and Gao Ziyao, Foreign Legal Affairs Supervisor.
In the afternoon, the delegation met with the Medical School team in at the Lihu Campus (Conference Room 811, 9th Floor, Building A6, Shouhui Building). During the meeting, Professor Han Shuixian extended a warm welcome to the RMIT delegation on behalf of Shenzhen University. Professor Xu Xingzhi then provided an overview of the Medical School’s organizational structure, disciplinary development, research platforms, and international collaboration. Professor Catherine Itsiopoulos introduced RMIT, outlining its history, institutional structure, academic strengths, and global development strategy. This was followed by an in-depth discussion on potential areas for future cooperation.
After the meeting, the delegation visited the Shenzhen University Central Library to learn about its facilities, digital resources, and student support services. They then toured the Medical School’s Shared Platform for Research and Innovation, where they observed the operation of key research facilities. The visit concluded with a tour of Shenzhen University General Hospital, including departments such as Dermatology, Otorhinolaryngology, and Ophthalmology, as well as the clinical teaching environment.

This visit further strengthened the cooperative relationship between Shenzhen University and RMIT, laying a solid foundation for deeper collaboration in medicine, life sciences, and interdisciplinary fields.
