Delegation of Belt and Road university presidents visits Shenzhen University
On the afternoon of October 20, a delegation of university presidents from countries along the Belt and Road, led by Tuimebayev Zhanseit Kanseitovich, President of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and Irada Khalilova, President of Khazar University in Azerbaijan, visited Shenzhen University (SZU). They received a warm welcome from Mao Junfa, President of SZU and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, during a meeting held in Conference Room 201 of the Huiyuan Building.
During the meeting, Mao Junfa extended a heartfelt welcome to the delegation on behalf of SZU. He emphasized the university's commitment to international talent development and noted that SZU has formed extensive partnerships with 290 higher education institutions across 55 countries and regions. These collaborations encompass various activities, including student and faculty exchanges, joint research projects, and cooperative education programs. Moreover, SZU actively seeks to attract students from around the globe, aiming to create a truly international learning environment that enhances the quality and level of its international education. Mr. Mao expressed his hope for strengthened collaboration with universities in countries along the Belt and Road, particularly in scientific research, talent cultivation, and cultural education.
Tuimebayev Zhanseit Kanseitovich expressed his gratitude to SZU for its warm hospitality and provided a detailed overview of the collaborative initiatives between Belt and Road universities and SZU. He shared that their visit was in response to an invitation to join a three-day international collaboration and exchange program focused on medical education and research with higher education institutions from Belt and Road countries. Tuimebayev called for closer cooperation among relevant universities in medical science and technology innovation, international medical education, and ethnomedicine innovation. He underscored the significance of China's Belt and Road Initiative in strengthening exchanges and economic ties between China and Central Asia. By adhering to the principles of consultation, collaboration, and mutual benefit, the economic and trade connections between the two regions are poised to grow even stronger.
SZU is dedicated to advancing the Belt and Road Initiative and actively engages in exchanges and cooperation with universities in Central Asia. Supported by its China Center for Special Economic Zone Research, SZU has established the Belt and Road International Cooperation Development (Shenzhen) Research Institute, which plays a vital role in promoting this national initiative and supporting the country's development strategy. Furthermore, SZU's Medical School has formed partnerships with several universities and research institutions in Kazakhstan, focusing on scientific research, talent development, and academic exchanges. This collaboration includes the establishment of a joint laboratory for medical science frontiers, with branches in both Shenzhen and Almaty. Each branch will operate independently while collaborating to facilitate exchanges among graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and young scientists. This program offers young scientists a three-month hands-on course in medical science. It also promotes collaborative scientific research publications based on shared interests and fosters academic partnerships, including joint conferences on medical advancements.
